Pistons legend Bill Laimbeer will become the head coach and president of basketball operations for the WNBA's newest team in Las Vegas.

On Tuesday afternoon, the league officially announced the San Antonio Stars will relocate to Las Vegas. They will be led by Laimbeer -- who has been named the WNBA Coach of the Year twice.

Laimbeer played 14 seasons in the NBA, winning back-to-back championships with the Detroit Pistons in 1989 and 1990. The team retired his No. 40 jersey in 1995.

Laimbeer was head coach of the New York Liberty for the past five seasons. He will be replaced by one of his associate coaches, Katie Smith.
