COLUMBUS - Todd Bertuzzi is returning to the Red Wings far ahead of schedule.
After initially being diagnosed with mononucleosis, the team retested the 37-year old forward Monday, and results came back negative.
A "kissing disease" usually suffered by college students, Bertuzzi was first thought to be out of the team's lineup for weeks.
Now, the team said he can return as soon as tonight, but will likely return Tuesday or Friday.
Head coach Mike Babcock told reporters before the original mono diagnosis that his forward had the flu. General manager Ken Holland confirmed to the Detroit Free Press he did indeed have a bad bout with the flu, but has recovered.
