(WXYZ) - Boston Bruins forward Milan Lucic has been fined $5,000 for spearing Red Wings defenseman Danny DeKeyser between the legs.
During the second period of Detroit's 1-0 win over Boston, Lucic poked his stick underneath DeKeyser's groin area. Cameras caught the act and the video sent Twitter into a frenzy.
The NHL announced the fine Saturday afternoon. Lucic will not be suspended.
The Bruins forward told reporters he has knocked an opponent between the legs three times in his seven-year NHL career.
"I don't know why I did that," he said Saturday.
Earlier this week, the league fined Chicago Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville $25,000 for "inappropriate conduct," when he argued a call in his team's series opener. Quenneville grabbed his own groin area, and cameras also caught that moment in action.
The Red Wings and Bruins face off at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
