DETROIT (WXYZ) - A day after the New York Islanders delivered a couple of hard hits on Jonathan Ericsson at Joe Louis Arena, Wings general manager Ken Holland says that Ericsson will be out for 3-5 weeks with two broken ribs.
The 29-year-old Ericsson missed 10 games earlier in the season with an upper-body injury.
This injury could play a factor as to whether Ericsson will be able to lace up his skates for Team Sweden in the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, in 2014.
Wings return to action when they travel to Sunrise, Fla., on Saturday, Dec. 28 for a 7 p.m. face off with the Panthers.
