Mike Babcock completes Red Wings coaching staff, adds Jim Hiller and Andrew Brewer as assistants

DETROIT - Mike Babcock has finished filling holes in his coaching staff.

The Red Wings head coach added Jim Hiller and Andrew Brewer as assistant coaches on Wednesday.

Last year's assistants, Tom Renney and Bill Peters, left to run Hockey Canada and coach the Carolina Hurricanes, respectively. Tony Granato has already been hired to fill one of the spots.

Hiller will fill Renney's spot behind the bench, and Brewer will run the video department.

Hiller was the head coach of the Western Hockey League's Tri-City Americans from 2009-14. He was named the WHL and CHL Coach of the Year for the 2011-12 season. He played in 21 games for the Red Wings in the 1992-93 season.

Brewer ran Hockey Canada's video coach for three years, including the 2014 Winter Olympics. He worked with Babcock when the team won the gold medal this February.
