(WXYZ) - The Red Wings have signed restricted free agent Riley Sheahan to a two-year deal that will pay him an average of $950,000 per season.
The former 2010 first round draft pick made a strong impression last year in his rookie campaign.
He scored nine goals and 15 assists in 42 games. Recording only six penalty minutes, Sheahan had a plus-6 rating.
After playing in one game in each of the two seasons leading up to 2013-14, Sheahan stepped up when the Red Wings were hit with a plethora of injuries.
The 22-year old will make $1.9 million over the course of the two-year contract.
