The Red Wings have sent goaltender Jared Coreau to Grand Rapids. The team has a week off before they play the Vancouver Canucks next Tuesday.

Coreau will spend this time with the Griffins (they play two games this weekend) before rejoining the Red Wings Monday.

Coreau's record this season (his first) with the Red Wings is 5-3. The Wings will continue to lean on him and Petr Mrazek as Jimmy Howard remains sidelined indefinitely with a knee injury.

Jeff Blashill said Tuesday that Howard is not as far along in his recovery as they would like. Howard was hurt back in December. He did a conditioning stint in Grand Rapids earlier this month and aggravated his injury further.

There is no clear timeline for when Howard will be able to return to practice, but the team sure could use him right now. His save percentage when he got injured was .934.

There are just 22 games left in the regular season and the Red Wings currently sit eight points out of a wild card spot.
