ROCKFORD, Ill. (WXYZ) - The Grand Rapids Griffins, the minor league affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings, celebrated the return of the NHL in record breaking fashion.
The Griffins set a franchise record for goals in their 11-6 victory over the Rockford IceHogs, and both teams combined to set the American Hockey League (AHL) record for most penalty minutes in a game with 230.
The majority of the penalty minutes came in a benches-clearing brawl that occurred just four seconds after Landon Ferraro's goal in the second period.
192 penalty minutes and 13 ejections were issued as a result of the fight.
