(WXYZ) - It marks the end of summer, but high school football's arrival means the beginning of a new season is here.
When the lights turn on for the first time, they'll shine on a tradition as celebrated as the sport itself. Football under the Friday night lights is nearing, and as the games begin, 7 is On Your Sidelines again.
We'll showcase the best games, the best teams, and the best players.
Each week during the season, log on to WXYZ.com's high school football page to vote for the Meijer High School Game of the Week.
Last year, we featured schools from all over Southeast Michigan.
The schools in our Meijer Game of the Week matchups included:
Berkley, Bloomfield Hills Lahser, Bloomfield Hills Brother Rice, Canton, Chippewa Valley, Clarkston, Detroit Cass Tech, Detroit Country Day, Detroit Renaissance, Grosse Pointe North, Grosse Pointe South, Plymouth, Pontiac Notre Dame Prep, Sterling Heights Stevenson, University of Detroit Jesuit, Walled Lake Western, Warren Mott, Watterford Kettering, and West Bloomfield.
Those were just our Games of the Week. Countless other schools from the area were featured. We went out east, up north, into Detroit, back west, and downriver.
In 2012, we visited Military Night at Chippewa Valley, showcased the final homecoming game at Lahser, helped spread the word about Warriors for Warriors at Walled Lake Western, and watched as one 7:00 kickoff after another became an instant classic.
Where we go, continues to be in your control.
They're your Friday nights, your season, and we're there every step of the way.
7 On Your Sidelines. The fun is just beginning.
