PORT HURON, Mich. (WXYZ) - In one of the state's most respected east side rivalries, Port Huron got off to a quick start against crosstown foe Port Huron Northern Friday night.
The Big Reds cruised to an early 14-0 first half lead, thanks to two late second quarter interceptions that kept the Huskies out of the end zone.
In the third quarter, it was more of the same. Port Huron quarterback Dalton Beidler rumbled in for a score that extended the Big Reds' lead to 28-0.
Port Huron held on to win by a 28-0 final. The Big Reds are now 4-1 on the season.
Both teams share the same home field, and before the annual rivalry game Friday, rededicated its Memorial Stadium to World War II veterans. The community moved its statue with names of local veterans to the front of the park.
Brad Galli reported live on 7 Action News before the game. You can watch the video segments in the player above.
