Brother Rice, Cass Tech will square off to open high school football season

(WXYZ) - The last time Cass Tech and Brother Rice were on the football field, each team was hoisting its respective MHSAA championship trophy at Ford Field.

Come August 24, they'll prepare to face off in the Detroit Sports Commission Prep Kickoff Classic at Wayne State University.

The Warriors and Technicians were announced as the headlining matchup in the state's annual kickoff weekend event.

This year, it's moving from its usual home at Eastern Michigan University to Wayne State's Tom Adams Field.

The 2011 state championship was the Warriors eighth state championship under legendary head coach Al Fracassa. Cass Tech became the first ever PSL team to capture a Division I championship.

The weekend of August 24-25 will highlight "Detroit Football," following Wayne State's run to the NCAA Division II National Championship.

"We are delighted to host this event.  It is a great way for people to come and see Wayne State and Midtown Detroit," said Wayne State University President Allan Gilmour.

The matchups include:
-Southgate Anderson vs. Woodhaven
-Dearborn vs. Clinton Twp. Chippewa Valley
-Detroit Crockett vs. Oak Park
-Port Huron vs. Utica Eisenhower
-Southfield vs. Detroit Martin Luther King
-Birmingham Brother Rice vs. Detroit Cass Tech
