DETROIT - High school football will return to Wayne State.
The Detroit Sports Commission announced the official game schedule for the high school football teams participating in the 2013 Detroit Sports Commission Prep Kickoff Classic.
For the second straight year, the event will take place at Tom Adams Field on the campus of Wayne State University from August 29-31.
The event this year features competition from schools in Southeast Michigan and Ohio. The headliners for the event include MHSAA State Champions Detroit Cass Tech (Division 1) and Birmingham Brother Rice (Division 2).
"The Detroit Sports Commission is extremely pleased to announce the most diverse schedule of games in the nine-year history of the Prep Kickoff Classic," said Dave Beachnau, DSC executive director.
Last year's event was marred when, according to campus police, gang violence took place during the third quarter of the Detroit Cass Tech-Birmingham Brother Rice game on Saturday. The earlier start times on Saturday, and less games per day, are to prevent another event.
Below is the schedule for the event:
Thursday, Aug. 29:
4 p.m. - Dearborn vs. Chippewa Valley
7 p.m. - Dearborn Fordson vs. Macomb Dakota
Friday, Aug. 30:
4 p.m. - Orchard Lake St. Mary's vs. Oak Park
7 p.m. - Detroit Cass Tech vs. Southfield
Saturday, Aug. 31:
