Michigan State fans take over Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (WXYZ) - An estimated crowd of 27,000 fans attended Michigan State's Pep Rally at LA Live on the eve of Wednesday's Rose Bowl.

The LA Spartans Club helped organized the event, which was held in the courtyard between the Staples Center and the Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles.

Athletic Director Mark Hollis warmed up the crowd and introduced head coach Mark Dantonio, who addressed the crowd for less than five minutes.  Dantonio's drew the biggest applause when he said, "I guess the Rose Bowl is a destination, not a stop," a reference to how he answered speculation that he might leave Michigan State for another job.

Honorary captain Kirk Cousins took the stage to raucous applause and spoke of his pride as he watched the Spartans team this year, pointing out to his teammates on the Washington Redskins that he "was one of them."

The marching band, dance team and cheerleading squad all participated in the event, which was capped off with University President Lou Anna Simon addressing the fans and thanking them for their dedication and passion.
