Michigan State is No. 3 seed in NCAA tournament; will open at The Palace

(WXYZ) - Michigan State is a 3 seed in the Midwest Region in this years NCAA tournament and will play its opening round games in Auburn Hills. This is the third time Michigan State will play tournament games in their home state.

Michigan State will play No. 14 seed Valparaiso in their opening game on Thursday at 12:15 on CBS. Valparaiso won the Horizon League. If State wins, they await the winner of No. 6 seed Memphis and No. 11 seed Middle Tennessee State or Saint Mary's. Middle Tennessee State and Saint Mary's have a play-in game.

Louisville is the No. 1 seed in the Midwest Region, Duke is the No. 2.
