Michigan State moves up to #4 in both polls

(WXYZ) - After Saturday night's win to claim the Big Ten championship, Michigan State has risen to #4 in the AP and USA Today polls.

The Spartans defeated Ohio State 34-24 to claim the title and end the Buckeyes BCS Championship hopes.

Florida State retained the top ranking after a convincing win over Duke in the ACC Championship Game.  The SEC Champion Auburn Tigers are ranked #2, followed by Alabama, who finished the season 11-1.

Michigan State clinched a berth in the Rose Bowl with Saturday's win. It's will be the first Rose Bowl appearance for the Spartans since January 1, 1988, when they defeated USC 20-17.

This year, the Spartans will face Stanford, who defeated Arizona State on Saturday for the PAC 12 Championship and finished the regular season ranked #5 in the AP Poll.
