DETROIT (WXYZ) - Before Game 3 of the World Series took center stage against San Francisco, Detroit's Miguel Cabrera accepted the Hank Aaron Award as the top offensive player in the American League. The Triple Crown champ, who earned the first once since 1967, led the AL with a .330 average, 44 homers and 139 RBI.
"It is a real privilege to have my name on the award that recognizes the most outstanding offensive performer in each league," said Aaron. "I want to congratulate Miguel and Buster [Posey] on their fantastic seasons and express my gratitude to the Hall of Famers and fans who helped select this year's winners."
Cabrera, who was recognized with an award for his Triple Crown achievement at the press conference, is relishing a Hank Aaron Award that was established to recognize the 25th anniversary of Aaron breaking Babe Ruth's home run record.
