NEW YORK -- The next step in the NHL's return looks to be set for Sunday, when training camps will open.
The NHL has called a press conference for Wednesday where it will likely confirm the deal between the league and players to end the lockout.
The league's board of governors will gather in New York before the media availability to vote on the agreement completed this past Sunday morning. Players will vote online.
Deputy commissioner Bill Daly has told the Canadian Press the new CBA should be in place and set by Saturday, and training camps around the league will open the next day.The Red Wings may open camp at City Arena in Detroit with Joe Louis Arena being used by the Ford Motor Company in preparation for the International Auto Show.
All signs point to a season starting soon after, without any preseason games. A 48-game or 50-game season is likely to begin January 19.
