WXYZ has learned Olympia Entertainment applied for the trademarks, "The Baddest Bowl" and "The Baddest Bowl in Hockey." The company received approval last year.
The Detroit Free Press was first to report the news.
On Tuesday, Chris Ilitch told reporters at a Crain's Detroit event the team will announce the name of the new hockey arena within the "next month or two."
Ilitch said the Red Wings have a deal in place for the naming rights.
