Red Wings to play the Boston Bruins in the first round of the 2014 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs

(WXYZ) - The Detroit Red Wings have kept the playoff streak alive by capturing the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.

Detroit battled many injuries and still managed to find a way at making the playoffs for the 23rd consecutive season.

The Wings will be facing off against the Presidents’ Trophy winner, Boston Bruins, and it will be a match-up between two original six teams.

Boston has been to the Stanley Cup Finals twice in three years, winning it all in 2011 and losing last year to the Chicago Blackhawks.

Detroit has been to the finals six times winning four Stanley Cups during the 23 year consecutive streak.

During the regular season, Detroit leads the series 3-1 against Boston. Detroit won both games at home, while splitting a pair at Boston.

The first game will take place Thursday in Boston.
