Packers release defensive back Charles Woodson

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WXYZ) - Charles Woodson, who won the Heisman Trophy at Michigan in 1997, has been released by the Green Bay Packers.

Woodson's contract would have cost the Packers $10 million against the cap next season.

The 36-year-old Woodson, who captured 2009 NFL defensive player of the year honors, has 55 career interceptions under his belt.

The question now becomes who will pick up the eight-time pro bowler?

Some reports have mentioned that New England, Baltimore or San Francisco could be interested in Woodson's services this coming season.

How fitting would it be for Woodson to end his career in Michigan with the Detroit Lions?

There is no doubt that having the veteran presence of Woodson in Detroit's secondary could provide a huge lift for a team coming off its 4-12 season; however, who's to say the Lions are even interested?

Woodson was set to make $9 million in 2013.
