Seattle Sounders FC midfielder Freddie
Ljungberg was voted Major League Soccer's Player of the Month for October, it
was announced on Thursday.
Ljungberg recorded four assists while leading the expansion Sounders to a
3-0-0 record during the final month of the regular season, good enough for a
berth in the 2009 MLS Cup Playoffs.
Seattle earned the No. 3 seed in the Western playoff bracket by finishing the
season 12-7-11 with 47 points. The team will face the second-seeded Houston
Dynamo in the Western Conference semifinal series. Ljungberg finished the
regular season with two goals and nine assists, including one assist in his
three previous meetings with the Dynamo.
The MLS Player of the Month is selected following the last regular season game
of each month by a panel of journalists from the North American Soccer
Reporters. The group consists of members of online, print, television and
radio media.
