Titans blow huge lead in loss to Valparaiso

DETROIT (1/17/13) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team came up short at home as the Valparaiso Crusaders came back to defeat the Titans, 89-88, ending the 17 game win streak at Calihan Hall.

Ryan Broekhoff made two free throws with 17 seconds left in regulation to give the Crusaders the one-point lead and they held on despite two chances from the Titans in final seconds to improve their record to 14-5 (4-1 Horizon League).

Nick Minnerath led UDM (11-7, 3-2 HL) with 36 points, shooting 12-17 from the field. Doug Anderson and Jason Calliste both finished in double figures for the Titans as Anderson had 17 points and Calliste added 14. Ray McCallum gathered seven boards to lead the Titans on the glass.

Kevin Van Wijk led Valpo with 31 points.
