Trey Burke signs a max rookie deal with the Utah Jazz

DETROIT (WXYZ) - Though Trey Burke is preparing to get his first taste of NBA action today in the NBA Summer League in Orlando, Fla., basketball isn't the only reason for his excitement.

According to reports, the Utah Jazz signed the former national player of the year to a max rookie deal. Burke will make nearly $5 million over his first two years, with Utah holding a team option for the next two seasons.

The deal was negotiated by Burke's father, Benji, who's also his agent.

The former Michigan All-American makes his NBA summer league debut today against the Miami Heat at the Amway Center at 1 p.m. Burke, who is expected to play in every game this summer, has an early opportunity to show Jazz head coach Tyrone Corbin he's ready to become the team floor general when the season begins in October.
