Yzerman stepping down as Team Canada executive director

SOCHI, Russia - Steve Yzerman will be calling it quits, instead of trying to go for a third Olympic gold medal in 2018 in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

He was Team Canada’s executive director and took on a big role trying to make the perfect Olympic roster to compete against teams like the United States, Sweden, and Russia.

His team during the Sochi Olympics only gave up three goals in six games, shut out the Americans 1-0 in the semi-finals, and defeated Sweden in the finals 3-0.

Yzerman ended his Olympic run by winning back-to-back gold medals (2010 and 2014) with Canada for the first time since 1948 and 1952.
