BE PART OF THE ENVIROMENTAL CLEAN UP SOLUTION SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 7th AT EASTERN MARKET

Recycling for Charities is urging Metro Detroiters to bring their used electronics to Eastern Market for an electronic waste education and collection drive

October 29, 2009, Royal Oak, MI – Recycling for Charities, a Royal Oak-based 501(c) 3 non-profit, is urging everyone in Metro Detroit to bring their used electronics to Eastern Market on Saturday, November 7th between 5am – 5 pm (in front of Shed 5).  The goal of the collection drive is to keep electronic waste out of landfills while simultaneously benefitting charities.  Money raised from the Eastern Market collection drive will go directly to several charities in Southeast Michigan.

Many electronic items contain hazardous materials such as lead, cadmium and mercury that are harmful to humans, pets and the environment.  By year’s end there will be approximately 550 million unused mobile and wireless phones stockpiled in the United States awaiting proper disposal.  In each of the following years that number is expected to grow by upwards of 175 million.

Several components used in electronic equipment, such as glass, metals and plastic, can be recycled into other products. Recycling for Charities helps consumers properly recycle their used cell phones, PDA’s, iPods and Digital Cameras and donates the value of the given electronic item to other non-profit organizations. There is no cost to donate, no cost for the charities, and all donations are tax deductible. You can do your part to save the environment and give to charity by simply bringing your used electronics to Eastern Market on November 7th.  People unable to make it down can also donate online at www.recyclingforcharities.com.
