With spring in full force and summer on the way, the state of Michigan is encouraging residents to learn and be prepared with Severe Weather Awareness Week, which kicks off Sunday.

Running from April 16 through April 22, it's put on by Michigan State Police with the help of the Michigan Committee for Severe Weather Awareness.

The committee has created the Michigan Severe Weather Awareness Packet which includes contacts, safety, facts, questions, planning and more.
