Travel weather outlook for holiday travel

(WXYZ) - A stronger, developing storm system in the Deep South could bring a plethora of weather hazards to the central United States through Christmas Day. Severe thunderstorms capable of damaging winds and tornadoes are possible for portions of the Lower Mississippi River Valley and southeast U.S. Meanwhile, widespread heavy snow could evolve from eastern Oklahoma into the western Tennessee and Ohio River Valleys.

Severe thunderstorms could impact a swath from eastern Texas to north Georgia late Christmas Day, bringing the threat for high winds, hail and even long-track tornadoes that could slow down travelers.

Heavy snow will become another weather threat from the Ohio Valley, Great Lakes and into the Northeast on Wednesday.  Blustery winds will also bring a hazard to post holiday travel.  Whether traveling by air or car, be aware there will likely be many delays due to this winter storm.
