PHOTOS: Chief Meteorologist Dave Rexroth reveals prosthetic left eye, announces return to WXYZ-TV

(WXYZ) - Dave Rexroth has a new eye. WXYZ's Chief Meteorologist received a prosthetic eye this week and sent along a pair of photos. Looking at the photos, it is difficult to tell that Rexroth lost his left eye in a July 4 fireworks accident.

With surgery behind him and his prostheitic eye in place, Rexroth says he is ready to come back to work.

Dave will be back in the 7 First Alert weather office next week for rehearsals. And with the goal of returning to our Action News newscasts the following week.

It's been a month since Dave was last in Broadcast House, during a surprise visit with the staff. During that visit, Dave explained his injuries to the 7 Action News team and he talked about learning to live without some of the depth perception he had in the past.

Dave was injured July 4 during a fireworks accident that occurred while he was visiting family in Iowa. Less than a week later, it was clear that he would lose his left eye as a result of his injuries. He's since undergone several surgeries.

We can't wait to have Dave back home in the 7 First Alert Weather Center, where he belongs!
