Overall, there were 19 named storms, 10 hurricanes and 1 major storm. This would make the 2012 hurricane season an active one, since an average season sees 12 named storms.
Hurricane Sandy (which became extra-tropical and commonly referred to as Superstorm Sandy) had the biggest impact, shutting down large parts of New York City, Long Island and New Jersey. The biggest rain producer was Hurricane Leslie, which produced over 38 inches of rain! Thankfully, Leslie and the storms 3+ feet of rain remained over the open Atlantic.
