ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. (WXYZ) - A Rochester Hills family is safe after their house caught fire Monday morning after an apparent lightning strike.
The homeowner, Ed Gruzwalski, told 7 Action News he was awakened by a large boom just before 5 a.m. He checked the exterior of the home, located in a subdivision off Hamlin Road, and that’s when he noticed smoke coming from just below his son’s second-story bedroom window.
By the time he got his son and wife out of the house, flames had spread up the outside of the exterior wall and into the attic.
Gruzwalski said firefighters arrived about five minutes after his 911 call.
The family has lived in the home for more than eight years.
Restoration crews worked quickly to secure the house.
