Recent Wayne State University student dies in early morning car accident

DETROIT (WXYZ) - Detroit Police say a 23-year-old woman is dead after an accident on the city's west side.

Diamond Scott was on her way to pick up her mother, who was coming back from a trip to Chicago with friends when she crashed on Greenfield and Curtis.

Police say the other driver ran a red light and struck Diamond, who was traveling northbound on Greenfield.

The victim in the other car was ejected and taken to the hospital. He is currently in critical condition. Police say he could face charges, if he recovers.

Diamond was a Wayne State University student who recently accepted a job in Baton Rouge as a social worker. She was also set to donate a kidney to a member of her church.

A fund has been set up in her memory. Donations can be made at any PNC Bank, under the Diamond Scott Memorial Fund.
