5th Annual Chiefs Cooking for Kids Event to be held Nov. 16 in Detroit

DETROIT (WXYZ) - Some of Metro Detroit's finest top brass will be cooking for kids.  

The Associated Food and Petroleum Dealers (AFPD) Foundation has teamed up with The Youth Connection for their 5th Annual Chiefs Cooking for Kids Event. 

The Chiefs Cook-off competition supports area youth. Metropolitan Detroit Chiefs of Police, Fire and other public safety agencies will don chef aprons and hats on Thursday November 16 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Max Fisher Music Theater in Detroit. Tickets can be purchased at  www.theyouthconnection.org[theyouthconnection.org].

The winning Chief will have a college scholarship named after him or her which we will give out at the AFDP's event in July. Money raised will also benefit youth related programs.

Black Jack BBQ Chicken

192 servings (1 breast, 1 thigh or 2 wings or legs)

9 cut whole chickens
Oil (chef's choice or peanut)
Kosher Salt
Black Pepper
Black Jack BBQ Sauce

Pre-heat the oven to 400 degrees while you prep the ingredients.
Wash the chicken and pat dry - then coat the chicken in oil and place on tray.
Season the chicken with salt and pepper and then bake the chicken in the oven.
Chicken should bake for 30 - 40 minutes until you reach an internal temp of 150 degrees.
Next, bring the bbq sauce to a simmer on the stove and remove the chicken from the oven.
Coat the chicken with the bbq sauce and place back in the over for finishing.
Cook chicken in the over until it reaches an internal temperature of 170 degrees.
