A Star Is Born event honors ABC News correspondent and Michigan native Bob Woodruff

(WXYZ) - ABC News Correspondent and Michigan native Bob Woodruff will be inducted into the Michigan Celebrity Hall of Fame during the Variety Children's Charity A Star Is Born event. This special evening will be held on Friday, April 26 th at Emagine Entertainment Center-Royal Oak and Star Lanes beginning at 6:30 pm.

Themed "Springtime in Paris," A Star Is Born will be a magical red carpet evening featuring live entertainment, gourmet French cuisine, cocktails and many surprises. Guests will have the opportunity to "shop" on the Champs-Élysées during a silent auction, take part in raffle opportunities for the chance to win one-of-a-kind prizes and enjoy popular French cinema. Glenda Lewis of WXYZ Channel 7 will emcee the evening.

The highlight of this black tie evening will be the induction of Woodruff into the Michigan Celebrity Hall of Fame. Created by the Detroit Chapter of Variety and hosted at Emagine Royal Oak, the Michigan Celebrity Hall of Fame honors artists and performers who have not only distinguished themselves through their outstanding artistic accomplishments, but have also made a major impact on the state of Michigan through their philanthropy. This special group of individuals is composed of some of Michigan's most celebrated artists including best-selling author, journalist and musician Mitch Albom, Detroit newswomen/anchor Diana Lewis and the late author Jeffrey Zaslow.

Crepe Batter


  • 1 Whole egg
  • 1 Yolk
  • 1 Cup Milk
  • ¾ Cup All Purpose Flour
  • 1 oz. Melted butter
  • Pan Spray


In a mixing, combine all the ingredients except pan spray and blend for 1 minute or until smooth. Strain and make sure there are no lumps. Refrigerate the batter for 1 hour.

Lightly spray the skillet and place over medium-high heat. When the pan is just beginning to smoke, remove from heat, and pour 1/4 cup of the batter in the middle of the pan and quickly tilt in all directions for 2 or 3 seconds to evenly distribute batter. Return the pan to the heat and when slightly brown on the underside, turn the crepe with a spatula onto the other side and cook for a few seconds. Remove from pan. Repeat with remaining batter.

Brandy Cherry Filling


  • 2 (15-ounce) cans whole Bing cherries in juice, drained and juice reserved
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • Dash ground clove
  • Dash ground allspice
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/8 cup room temp Blackberry Brandy


In a small bowl, combine a little cherry juice and cornstarch. In a skillet, heat juice from cherries, sugar and spices over moderate heat. Add cornstarch mixture. When juice thickens, add cherries to warm through. Pour in warmed Blackberry Brandy, then flame the pan to burn off alcohol. Remove cherries from heat. Spoon into crepes and roll.

Garnish with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.
