Whitney Houston was already doing drugs before her marriage to Bobby Brown. That’s just one of the shocking revelations coming from the R&B star in his exclusive interview with ABC News.

ABC’s Robin Roberts spoke to Bobby Brown at length about the drugs, his life with Whitney Houston, and their daughter’s tragic death last year.

"It wasn’t me that started her," Brown says. "I take my part and I take it hard for me even being a part of it.  But we all have our own minds, and some of us are stronger than others."

In her exclusive interview with Brown, Roberts questions the R&B singer about the long-held belief that he was the one who got his superstar ex-wife Whitney Houston hooked on drugs.

"When you see this picture what do you see?," she asked the superstar.

"Happiness, I think we’re both happy. I was deeply in love with her and for the rest of my life I think I will have that feeling towards her, because  she was that one person that knew me – that one person that had no judgment," he answered.

"You broke tradition and saw her before the wedding," Roberts asked.

"That was the first time I had actually saw her do drugs," Brown answers, saying the drug was cocaine.

In his new book, Brown writes he found his bride “hunched over a bureau snorting a line of coke.”

He says she asked him to join in, but he did not indulge at that moment.

Roberts told us today that others who knew the couple confirm Brown’s claims.

Brown also told Roberts that after Houston’s death in 2012, Brown and their daughter – Bobbi Kristina – became estranged.

Last year, he had been about to reconcile with his daughter, but just two days later the 22-year-old was found unresponsive in a bathtub. She later died.

"His biggest regret was that he wasn’t there for her more," Roberts told us. "That he failed her. That he failed her as a parent."

Roberts says she was surprised at how open Brown was during their extensive interview. She says they spent a lot of time re-living all of the music and talking about what the future holds.

"It just brings you back to a time, and he wants to be that performer again. He wants to bring people joy, and when you hear that music and you’re reminded of a different time," Roberts says. "He is in a different place in his life, he does not make excuses for the mistakes that we all tend to make, his greater than some of us, the mistakes – and just owned up to it, but also wants to talk about where he is now, and where he wants to go."

You can catch Robin Roberts’ full interview with Bobby Brown tonight at 10:00 pm on a special edition of 20/20.
