During Autism Awareness Month, a Downriver community based program called the Puzzle Parents are bringing to light the impact having a child with autism has on families.

On the first and third Monday of each month, about 60 parents gather together for two hours at St. Stephen’s Church in Wyandotte.

The Puzzle Parents program is a free support group offered through Mimi’s Mission, a local nonprofit, for parents with autistic children.

During the meetings, you’ll find the members sharing stories of confusion, sadness and triumph. They embrace one another and keep in contact on a regular basis as a way to provide support and encouragement.

Puzzle Parents meet on the first and third Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at St. Stephen’s Church, 2803 1st Street in Wyandotte. To support the children of the community with autism, visit http://mimismission.com/or call 844-439-6464.
