GROSSE POINTE SHORES, MI (WXYZ) — With more children than ever learning at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Ford House is offering support through free admission and educational activity kits this fall.

Ford House, the historic estate of Edsel and Eleanor Ford in Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan, created this opportunity with the generous support of the Ford Motor Company Fund.

During a difficult time for many, free children’s tickets and activities make it easier for families to experience the National Historic Landmark estate. Adult admission is just $5 for an all-day grounds pass, and children’s grounds passes will be free from Oct. 6 through Nov. 30, 2020. With school field trips off the table, Ford House fills the void as a safe place to visit. Parents can bring their young learners to the estate to boost educational enrichment and also spend some time out of the house. The estate boasts plenty of space to explore while keeping a safe distance from others with its 87 acres on the shore of Lake St. Clair.

Kids 12 and under can pick up an educational kit onsite for free and discover the estate while completing fun learning activities tailored to their age group. Kits include a bird-spotting guide, a leaf identification pack, coloring pages and binoculars. Designed to complement various educational standards through hands-on experiences, activities are centered on outdoor nature science. The kit was created by Ford House’s education team.

Ford House offers more affordable opportunities for young learners, including monthly At-Home Learner workshops online and in-person tours. The virtual workshops cost $5 per family. The onsite tours cost $2 per person.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Ford House continues to uphold guidelines and safety procedures to ensure a clean, comfortable, safe and enjoyable visit for all. This includes hand sanitizer stations around the estate and limited admission capacities. All visitors must carry a mask with them, to be worn when interacting with other visitors or staff. Visit www.fordhouse.org [fordhouse.org] to reserve a grounds pass with free admission for children. Families will receive the educational kit at the entrance gate.

All grounds passes must be reserved in advance at www.fordhouse.org. There are no onsite ticket sales.
