(WXYZ) — It’s time for hockey!

Well at least for the NHL and many hockey fans are thrilled! And for those hockey players still at home waiting to see what their season will be like, lifestyle and parenting expert, Sherri French has some smart and fun solutions to keep you on your game.

STICKHANDLING

Homemade Stickhandling Ball

What you need:

· Golf balls

· Hockey tape

Why pay for a stickhandling ball when you can make one that is perfect for your hockey player no matter what their skills are. Wrap a golf ball in hockey tape. The more tape you put on, the slower the ball will be for learners, while no tape on the golf ball is perfect for your expert stickhandlers.

BONUS: Add in a skateboard or two to stickhandle under for more difficulty.

Shooting Mat

Pucks don’t always move easily on a shooting mat. Put some car wax onto the mat and your puck will move faster and easier.

TARGET PRACTICE

Net targets made from things in your house

What you need:

· Hockey net

· Wire hangers

· Sponges

· Scouring pads

· Pool noodles

· Pool float

· Anything else you can think of

· Rope

· Zipties

Make target practice fun by using things from your own home. Attach fun targets like water balloons, a pool noodle, sponges and anything else to make shooting a fun experience for your player.

ORGANIZATION

Storing Tape

What you need:

· All of your hockey tape

· Paper towel holder

Tired of having hockey tape rolls all over your house, garage or random places in your car? Use a paper towel holder to stack and store your hockey tape so you know exactly how much you have as it will all be in one spot.

Hockey Bag

Can you always pack your kids bag perfectly? To make more room try a few of these tricks.

· Place shin pads into the pants

· If you don’t have skate guards, skates also are great in pants to protect the blades and make more room

· Put any of your underclothes in a laundry bag

· Keep your mouthguard in a Ziploc bag with your name on it so it’s there when you need it
