(WXYZ) — With many Fortune 500 companies planning on transitioning to remote work after the pandemic, the new reality of remote work has blurred the lines between our personal and professional lives, leaving many employees struggling to set healthy boundaries. Some may find themselves working more hours to demonstrate their commitment to employers who may be concerned about their productivity.

Since COVID19, recent survey found burnout rate has doubled between March to April increasing from 2.7% to 5.4%. The Chief Transparency Officer of TransparentBusiness, Moe Vela, understands how remote work can be challenging at first to separate work time from personal time and knows that not dealing with burnout can lead to a significant loss inproductivity in the long run.

As a result, Vela has 5 tips to preventing yourself and your employees from burning out:

. Set up your workspace. Avoid working from your bed and couch if possible. Investing in an office desk or using your dining room table as your office space can help you clearly outline what is your workspace compared to
personal space.

  • Admit what you don't know...and learn. WFH can take some time for adjusting and requires you to learn new skill. Take the time to learn them through LinkedIn learning courses or other affordable online courses.
  • Connection is key. While many calls will be via Zoom or Skype these days, not every meeting needs to be on video as constant virtual appointments can become burdensome and a stressor. Take some calls walking or sitting outside for some necessary balance.
  • Align with your manager on goals. Wondering whether you are meeting expectations, or not sure what your are expected to do on a day-to-day basis can be stressful. It is key for you to communicate often with your manager to clearly define your priorities and goals as well as outline what the communication process throughout the day or even within a project will be
  • Take small breaks. It is easy to work from morning to night in a remote work environment but making sure that you create some time for yourself is super important.
