Aretha Franklin's fans celebrate 50 years of R-E-S-P-E-C-T

Fifty years ago today, she demanded R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

Aretha Franklin recorded one of her most famous songs on February 14, 1967.

Fans were excited to share their love of "Respect."

Berlin Brown said, "We need to sing it today. We can go around shouting it and sing it!

Aretha Franklin fans are excited to learn that one of their favorite songs turns 50.

The singer recorded "Respect" in a New York City studio.

Florence Vanhorn said, "It's a good song, a really good song."

It was originally sung by Otis Redding two years earlier, but The Queen of Soul took it and made it her own .

"It's just a sassy song, you know, it's fun," fan Chevon Anderson explained. "When I was a kid it taught me how to spell respect."
