Rodgers and Hammerstein's romantic musical is set against the dramatic background of an idyllic South Pacific island during WWII. The classic mixes the themes of love, romance, passion, duty and prejudice to create what The Village Players calls "a story that is all at once hilarious, heartbreaking, and thought-provoking."  The show runs May 6 - 22.  Click the link for ticket details regarding South Pacific.

This romantic musical follows two intercultural love stories: Nellie Forbush, a spunky nurse from Arkansas  falls in love with Emile de Becque, a wealthy, exiled Frenchman.

At the same time, U.S. Lieutenant Cable falls for an innocent Tonkinese girl named Liat.  Both Americans find themselves struggling to reconcile their own cultural prejudices with their amorous feelings, all the while under the dark cloud of a war that is coming ever closer to their island paradise.

The show features blockbuster toe-tapping songs including, "Some Enchanted Evening", "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair", "Younger Than Springtime," "Bali Ha'i", "Honey Bun" and "There is Nothin' Like a Dame."

Director  Ralph Rosati  says "you will tap your feet, sing along with the performers, and laugh at the antics of human beings who are desperately trying to maintain a level of normalcy.  You might also shed a tear at the unpredictability of life's harshest blows, love longed for, and love lost."

The talented cast of South Pacific includes local veteran actors and some exciting new faces to the Village Players stage featuring Noelle Perrin as Nellie Forbush from Clinton Twp. and Jason Bowen from Madison Heights as Emile de Becque with Tania L. Velinsky from Royal Oak as Bloody Mary, Zak Shugart from Troy as Lt. Joseph Cable, Paul Kelllerman from Bloomfield Hills as Luther Billis and Erica Poster from St. Clair Shores as Liat.

The two-act musical runs approximately two and a half hours with one 15 minute intermission.
