DETROIT (WXYZ) — The Detroit People Mover will begin operating in the opposite direction.
The People Mover has run clockwise for over 11 years. The Detroit Transportation Corporation determined there is an advantage to allowing the steel wheels to maintain an even wear pattern on the rails by traveling in the opposite direction.
Counter-clockwise travel will begin on weekends in February and daily starting March 1.
There will be an exception on the weekend of Feb. 22-23 for consistency during the Nation of Islam Saviours' Day convention.
