SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WXYZ) — The Road Commission for Oakland County is giving details on what construction people will see in 2021.

“It’s just old, it is just old, and it needs attention,” said Southfield resident Michael Stanton when talking about 12 Mile Road.

There are already sections of 12 Mile Road under construction. The plan for 2021 is to keep construction going in the area, this time from Lahser to Evergreen.

“We are going to completely take the road and base and rebuild it from the ground up,” said Craig Bryson, Senior Communications Manager for the Road Commission for Oakland County.

There are major resurfacing planned for three major roadways:

  • Walton Blvd, from Dixie Highway to Sashabaw Road in Waterford Township
  • Adams Road, from Long Lake to Square Lake on the Troy/Bloomfield Township border
  • Cranbrook Road, 14 Mile to Maple on the Birmingham/Bloomfield Township border

“In each of those cases, we will do some base repair, we will fix some drainage issues, we may add a turn lane here and there if it is warranted and then we will put on three to four inches of new asphalt,” said Bryson.

Paving gravel section of Currie Road from 9 Mile to 10 Mile in Lyon Township is also planned for 2021.

Funding played a role in which projects were chosen. The county is projecting a nine million dollar lose in state funding because of the coronavirus pandemic. The projects chosen are 80 percent federally funded and 20 percent locally funded.

“We don’t want to loss that federal funding because that’s leveraging our money and getting the biggest bang for the bucks so we prioritized keeping all the federally funded projects,” said Bryson.

On Thursday at 10 a.m., the county will be holding a conference call for residence to learn more and give feedback. For those wanting to participate, call 810-337-8118 and enter conference ID number 685 175 899#.

For those not able to call in at that time, the Road Commission for Oakland County has information on their website if you would like to reach out to them.
