(WXYZ) — More lane and ramp closures are expected to begin along I-94 near Detroit Metro Airport next week, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.

According to MDOT, both eastbound and westbound I-94 will continue to be down to two lanes between I-275 and I-94 through the fall.

On top of that, there will be an additional lane closure at night between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. from Tuesday, Sept. 3 through Thursday, Sept. 5.

MDOT also says that beginning at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, the westbound I-94 service drive/collector distributor will be closed at Middle Belt Road due to bridge work. Traffic must get off north or south on Middle Belt, and southbound Middle Belt will have posted detours toward the airport using westbound Goddard Rd.

Plus, the northbound and southbound Middle Belt ramps to west I-94 will be closed, along with the southbound Merriman ramp to westbound I-94.

The northbound Merriman ramp to westbound I-94 will remain open. Also, the Merriman and Middle Belt ramps to eastbound I-94 will stay open, while Ecorse Rd. on ramps are closed to east and westbound I-94 through the fall.

MDOT said that while access to the airport will be maintained with at least one ramp always open, it will be limited and drivers are encouraged to use the airport access off Eureka Rd. near I-275.

The $15.5 million project is working to repair I-94 and 12 bridges in Wayne County.
