(WXYZ) — People in metro Detroit are experiencing a collision of three seasons: winter, fall and construction season. Many people are asking how will this early wintry blast impacts efforts to finish road construction projects around metro Detroit?

7 Action News reached out to MDOT for the answer.

“A lot of things are wrapping up anyway, but on somethings, we are just going to keep going until we can’t work anymore,” said Diane Cross, MDOT spokeswoman.

Cross says crews don’t necessarily get a snow day off. They have paperwork that needs to be done to comply with state and federal laws. Plus at some sites workers are still out. 7 Action News spotted crews moving work debris along I-75 in Troy.

“When it comes to pouring concrete, letting it cure, painting striping on the roads, these things cannot be done in this kind of weather,” Cross said.

So will this early wintery weather mean the project you are dealing with doesn’t get done on schedule? Well, we will just have to wait and see. There are still weeks left in the construction season, as crews plan to continue working through December.

“We’ve only really had one day of this kind of snow, so it is a bit early to have anything truly being impacted. Because any work schedule always plans on weather because weather is always an issue,” Cross said.
