If you need some motivation to get in shape, this story is for you..  An 81-year old man’s grit, determination, and out-of-the box thinking has allowed him to stay in extraordinary shape.

If you see Joe Noble running down the street  you know, there is a story to be told. The 81-year-old runs with a unique home-made cart decked out with antlers.  We wanted to hear his story.

“I just like to run, you know,” said Noble.

After talking to him for a short time though, you know, it is about much more than just running.

Around the time Joe turned 68-years-old, he started to fall while out on runs.

“It really messed me up. I told the wife, I am going to break a bone. I am too old,” said Noble.

Joe feared he would  have to just quit working out like so many people do.

“Then I saw those women pushing those carts with babies in them and thought -  that is what I need,” said Noble.

He built a cart to help him run safely.

“I put that mirror up so I could see if anybody comes up behind me on a bicycle,” said Nobel, pointed to a rear-view mirror.

Mounted on the cart is a baseball bat, just in case.

“That is for dogs and ornery people,” said Noble.

The cart also is decorated with antlers for motivation.  They remind Noble of why he runs.  He wants to be in shape for deer season.

“When I am hunting I normally go 30 foot up in a tree,” he said.

The cart may prevent falls, but it doesn’t make running easier.  It is loaded up with weights and weighs about 100 pounds.

Joe runs about three miles a day, almost every single day around Wixom.

“I feel great,” said Joe.  “It is perseverance. Like anything else, keep on keeping on.  Don’t give up.”
