New $300M project in Midtown to bring luxury housing and boutique hotel

DETROIT (WXYZ) — A massive mixed-use project that will include luxury condos, a new hotel, a huge plaza and even a local grocer in Midtown is expected to break ground this summer.

The Mid, located at 3750 Woodward Ave., is a 3.8-acre development and an investment of more than $310 million, according to developers.

The development will house a luxury boutique hotel, condominiums, co-living housing, multi-family housing, retail space a parking lot and community space.

Residential occupancy rates in Midtown exceed 98 percent, according to a press release, and to meet Midtown’s demand, which includes Wayne State University, Children’s Hospital and Little Caesars Arena, the development is expected to bring hundreds of housing.

The Mid will provide 250 multi-family residences, including an affordable housing component, a few hundred co-living units, and 60 high-end luxury condos with state-of-the-art amenities.

The centerpiece of the project will be a 228-room luxury boutique hotel, which will include a restaurant and cocktail lounge. Details on the hotel are expected to be announced this summer.

Where will everyone park, you ask? The project includes a 744-space parking deck.

In addition, 100,000 square feet will be dedicated to retail space.

The project is expected to create 1,800 construction jobs and 400 permanent jobs, according to the development company, 3750 Woodward Ave, LLC.

"This transformational project is another example of the continuing high-level of investment and activity in Midtown,” said Sue Mosey, executive director, Midtown Detroit Inc. “We’re excited to welcome The Mid because it will add so much to the area – housing, needed services to residents, create more traffic for existing businesses, and serve as an attraction to patrons frequenting Midtown's thriving food and entertainment district."

The Mid is slated to open to the public in 2020.
