There's a new push to help children in the foster care system by training adults on how to become adoptive parents.

More than 2,500 children are currently in the foster system in Detroit and there are more than 14,000 children placed in foster care each year just in Michigan.

To help get more children into loving homes, the Children's Center is hosting "Foster & Adoptive Parent Orientation" sessions. These sessions help people learn more about becoming a foster or adoptive parent.

JoAnne Purtan sat down with Deana Fisher from the Children's Center to talk about the orientation sessions.

The sessions will take place on Wednesday June 8 at 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. at the Children's Center on 90 Selden in Detroit.
