INKSTER, Mich. (WXYZ) — Salt trucks have been hitting the roads throughout metro Detroit overnight, and drivers are waking up to a mixed bag of road conditions.
Overnight workers reported varying conditions depending on where they’re driving — major roads seem to have a better chance at having been cleared, while side streets are still a mess leading to a ton of school closings.
“Main roads aren’t bad,” said Ron Rich, who was heading to work around 4 a.m. “You’ve got to admit, if we can get six inches within 24 hours and the main roads are clear, the parking lots are clear — that’s not bad.”
Charlie Benson, who works inside patients homes throughout the area, told 7 Action News he thought some communities cleaned up much faster than others.
“I got into something terrible in Bloomfield — just horrible — when I got to Southfield, they did a good job,” said Benson. “I was telling a friend, honestly, I couldn’t wait to get back to Southfield. I just hope Pontiac did a good job for when I get home.”
The roads are just the first concern — beginning tomorrow, unseasonably cold temperatures will hit all of Michigan. Governor Gretchen Whitmer has already declared a State of Emergency ahead of Wednesday’s weather.
