5 millionth vehicle rolls off the line at Chrysler's Jefferson North Assembly Plant

DETROIT (WXYZ) - An amazing accomplishment at a Detroit assembly plant has workers celebrating tonight - that's because they've reached a major milestone in the motor city.
Workers at Chrysler's Jefferson North Assembly Plant celebrated their 5,000,000 vehicle produced and it was a new Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Located in the heart of Detroit, the Jefferson North assembly line has been pumping out vehicles since 1992.
Its first vehicle was a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Now, 20 years later, a 2014 model is their five millionth vehicle.
The plant known to many as "J-NAP" is one of two Chrysler group facilities to call Detroit home.
Chrysler's senior vice president of manufacturing is obviously thrilled about the milestone, but now he's already looking toward the future.
"Our challenge now is really to keep that focus, to keep this vehicle at the top of the industry," says Scott Garberding. "So that somebody, I'll even say I hope not me, can stand here and talk about the 10 millionth Grand Cherokee."
Chrysler says the new 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland will be donated to United Service Organizations.
