(WXYZ) - Chrysler is recalling 282,000 minivans from the 2013 model year over issues with the side airbags.
When in a crash, side airbags in these vehicles can deploy on the wrong side. The airbags should deploy on the side of the car involved in the crash, but a software problem is causing them to deploy on the opposite side of the vehicle.
Models being recalled are the Dodge Grand Caravan, Chrysler Town and Country and Ram Cargo Van. Of the 282,000 total recalled vehicles, 224,000 vehicles are in the U.S.; 49,300 are in Canada; 2,900 are in Mexico and 5,300 are elsewhere.
A customer complaint led Chrysler to begin investigating the issue. Chrysler says there has been a single minor injury in relation with the defect.
Affected customers will be notified by Chrysler and dealers will reprogram the software for free.
